Ann Moss' voice cracks with emotion as John Shirreffs leads Zenyatta around the ring at Keeneland on a cold, snowy December night and allows people to touch her. Dottie walks beside them, and Mario watches from nearby. A crowd of over 1000 people showed up on 12/6/10, bundled up against 17 degree weather, to bid Zenyatta farewell from racing, and welcome her to her birth state of Kentucky.

by Ed DeRosa Alain and Gerard Wertheimer's homebred Goldikova (Ire) became the first horse to win three Breeders' Cup races with her third consecutive Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) victory on Saturday at Churchill Downs. Goldikova's quest for a Mile three-peat was largely overshadowed at this year's Breeders' Cup by Zenyatta's bid for her third Breeders' Cup win and a chance to cap an unbeaten career with her 20th victory without a defeat in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1). But Goldikova dazzled on center stage in the Mile with a powerfully rally to victory that cemented her legacy as one of racing's all-time greats. "She's the best [racemare] in the world," Goldikova's jockey, Olivier Peslier said after the race. "Now, it's Zenyatta's turn." Some of the build-up leading up to the Breeders' Cup World Championships dealt with Goldikova's trainer, Freddie Head, saying in October that his mare was more accomplished than Zenyatta, who came up a heart-breaking head short to Blame in the Classic. Goldikova, however, took care of business in the $1818000 TVG Breeders' Cup Mile and she received thunderous applause from the crowd at Churchill Downs. Goldikova had won the Mile in 2008 and '09 both at the Oak Tree meeting at Santa Anita Park. "This is very emotional for me—being the first jockey to win two races [aboard Miesque] and now training this mare to win three times, it's something you can't even dream of," Head said.
