Buckpasser - 1966 Horse Of The Year [11:49]
Buckpasser (1963--1978) was an American-bred Thoroughbred racehorse who won nine of his eleven race starts for international record winnings for a two-year-old of $586090. He was leading broodmare sire in 1983, 1984 and 1989. Buckpasser was a bay colt that was bred and owned by Ogden Phipps and foaled at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Kentucky. He was by the Horse of the Year winner Tom Fool, and his dam was the stakes-winning mare Busanda, by the Triple Crown winner War Admiral. Busanda's second dam was the Blue Hen broodmare La Troienne (FR). He was a half-brother to several other horses that included the stakes-winners Bupers (won $221688) and Bureaucracy ($156635). Buckpasser was inbred in the fourth generation (4m x 4f) to the French racehorse and an influential sire Teddy. Racing official Dr. Manual Gilman said of him, "Generally, every horse has about a hundred faults of conformation. I would defy anybody to pick a flaw in Buckpasser." Renowned horse painter Richard Stone Reeves said, "Buckpasser was the most perfectly proportioned Thoroughbred I have ever seen." Only two horses, Secretariat and Affirmed, have since been "in a class with Buckpasser". en.wikipedia.org

Sr. Champ Onboard 9/16/12 - NHMS (Upper Track) / Feature Race Part 2 [07:17]
Onboard footage of Part 2 of the Sr. Champ Feature Race from New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Upper Track) in New Hampshire. After the refueling break, I was running in 3rd place. Part 2 of the Feature Race was about the same as Part 1, except I was able to run at the front a little more. Once again, the slipstream killed me. James in the #24 kart and Dylan in the #24x kart were able to hook up and draft, while I was out to drive. I did what I could to try to keep up with them. After the 25 laps, I finished 3rd. I got a trophy and two tickets to the NASCAR race on 9/23/12. Anybody want them? I don't need them, since I won't bother going to the race.

1986 Kentucky Derby - Ferdinand [21:48]
A horse from California was supposed to win the 112th Kentucky Derby, but hardly anybody expected it to be Ferdinand, a 17‚1 shot ridden by a 54-year-old jockey and saddled by a 73-year-old trainer. But at the finish of a slow and roughly run Derby, it was Ferdinand, ridden by Bill Shoemaker and trained by Charlie Whittingham, drawing away to a 21/4- length victory over Bold Arrangement and Broad Brush, with the favored Californians, Snow Chief and Badger Land, off the board. Shoemaker steered Ferdinand, a son of the English triple crown winner Nijinsky II, through heavy traffic from last place to first while covering the mile and a quarter in a dull 2:024/5. Bold Arrangement, an English colt, won a three-way duel for second place, finishing three-quarters of a length in front of Broad Brush. Snow Chief, the 2‚1 favorite, tired badly to finish 11th after taking a brief lead round the far turn. Ferdinand paid $37.40 for $2 to win, the highest Derby payoff since Gato del Sol, also a Californian, also rallied to win from last place and returned $41.40 in 1982. The race was a sentimental triumph for Shoemaker, who became by far the oldest rider ever to win the race while scoring his fourth Derby triumph, and for Whittingham, a Hall of Fame trainer who had never won a Derby. Artistically, though, it was a less successful Derby run before a crowd of 123891. The winner's time over a fast track was the slowest in 12 years, and more horses had rough trips than honest ones today ...
