Alpha - 2012 Withers (G3) [02:05]
Alpha took a big step along the road to the Kentucky Derby on Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack, drawing clear to an emphatic 3 ¼-length victory as the 1-5 favorite in the Grade 3, $200000 Withers for 3-year-olds. Leaving from the outside in the field of six, the Bernardini colt was floated wide on the first turn but then settled in about two lengths behind pacesetter How Do I Win as he led through an opening quarter-mile in 23.71 and a half in 48.04. Moving up three-wide on the far turn, Alpha took command at the top of the stretch when asked and was never threatened as he cruised under the wire for his second straight stakes win of 2012. His winning time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:44.23.

New York Watch - The Lumber Guy [01:37]
The Lumber Guy was more than OK on January 28 at Aqueduct Racetrack as he skipped and jumped clear to a 9 ¼-length debut victory against eight maiden New York-bred 3-year-olds. Leaving from post position 2, The Lumber Guy wasted no time getting to the front, leading by 1 ½ lengths two furlongs into the race with an opening fraction of 22.79 seconds and widening his advantage to two lengths through a half in 46.12. He was never shown the whip in the lane by jockey Jose Valdivia, Jr. as he pulled clear from Smarty Julips, who chased the winner in second from start to finish. The Lumber Guy, a gray colt by Grand Slam, received a Beyer Speed Figure of 90 for having completed six furlongs in 1:10.20. The performance was similar to the 6 ½-length maiden win Bold Deed, a half-brother to The Lumber Guy, posted in a six-furlong dash at Aqueduct last March in his second start. In three starts since earning his diploma, Bold Deed won the one-mile Packett's Landing overnight stakes for New York-breds in April, finished fifth in the Grade 2 Peter Pan, and second in the NYSS Spectacular Bid. Like Bold Deed, The Lumber Guy is a homebred trained by Michael Hushion for owner Barry Schwartz.

Alpha - 2012 Count Fleet [02:00]
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin unleashed a pair of eye-catching 3-year-olds Saturday afternoon at Aqueduct Racetrack, with odds-on favorite Alpha taking the $150000 Count Fleet by 2 ½ lengths and Captivating Lass coming on late to capture the $100000 Busanda for fillies in a thrilling finish. Carrying the colors of Godolphin Stable, Alpha raced in third, well off the rail, as Il Villano barreled into the lead and carried the field of seven sophomores through an opening quarter-mile in 24.48 seconds, a half in 49.06 and three-quarters in 1:13.91 over the fast inner track. Edging up three-wide on the turn, Alpha took aim on the front-runners and gained the lead with 220 yards to go, cruising under the wire in 1:42.83 for the mile and 70 yards and galloping out well.
