Lester Piggott Royal Academy Breeders' Cup Mile 1990 The triumphant return of the 54-year-old Lester Piggott, just 12 days out of retirement. Even for an 11-time champion jockey and nine-time Derby winner, it does not get much better than this. Years on, Piggott held firm to the assertion that Royal Academy's victory in the Mile for his old friend Vincent O'Brien was a "dream come true". Piggott rarely used such language.
