Post race comments from the Grade 2 Matron S. at Belmont Park
New York Watch: Micromanage [01:37]
On the final Saturday of the 2011 Saratoga Race Course meet, a 2-year-old colt named Alpha joined the New York Watch after posting a debut score in a seven-furlong maiden special weight, and 51 weeks later he was in Saratoga's winner's circle after dead heating for the win in the Grade 1 Travers. This year, Micromanage, a Todd Pletcher trainee, posted a five-length debut win in a seven-furlong race on the last Saturday of the meet, and his owner, Mike Repole, hopes history will repeat. "If we can duplicate Alpha's career with this horse, I think I'd be pretty content," said Repole, who won the 2011 Travers with Stay Thirsty. In his debut, Micromanage raced in fifth under jockey Javier Castellano in the opening quarter mile, ranged up three wide to offer his bid on the turn, overtook favored Gulfport straightening for home, and steadily widened his advantage in the stretch. Apex overtook Gulfport late for second. Micromanage, one of two first-time starters in the field of eight, completed the race in 1:23.01 and paid $13.60 for a $2 win wager as the 5-1 fourth choice.

Dominus - 2012 Bernard Baruch (G2) [01:57]
Making his first start on turf, Dominus led every step under a measured ride from Julien Leparoux and rolled to a 1 ¼-length victory over even-money favorite Data Link in Saturday's Grade 2, $250000 Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga Race Course. The 4-year-old Smart Strike ridgling, who got an eight-pound break in the weights from the favorite, went to the lead a few strides out of the gate and galloped through unpressured fractions of 24.29, 48.63 and 1:12.26 over the firm turf. Accelerating as he came out of the far turn, Dominus quickly opened up on his five rivals and was never seriously threatened by Data Link's late run. "He was the only speed in the race, he just galloped easy, broke easy, and it was pretty easy for him," said Leparoux. "It was very nice for me at the end. He's a nice horse. First time on the grass, he was relaxed." Dominus's winning time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:40.32.

Turbulent Descent - 2012 Ballerina (G1) [01:39]
Odds-on favorite Turbulent Descent earned her fourth career Grade 1 victory in the first start for her new connections, taking over at the top of the stretch and going on to a 1 ¼-length win over Derwin's Star in Friday's $500000 Ballerina at Saratoga Race Course. Purchased privately by Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier and Derrick Smith this summer and sent to trainer Todd Pletcher, the 4-year-old Congrats filly was making her second start of 2012 and first since taking the Desert Stormer Handicap on June 17 at Betfair Hollywood Park. Away from the gate alertly, Turbulent Descent raced three-wide alongside Island Bound and Nicole H as All Due Respect led through an opening quarter-mile in 23.02 seconds, with the half going in 45.33. Moving up with Nicole H on the turn, Turbulent Descent quickly assumed command straightening for home and was never threatened as she galloped under the wire in 1:22.13 for the seven furlongs.
