1996 Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap [03:22]
Alphabet Soup was disqualified in one of the more controversial calls in recent memory, making Savinio the winner of the $303300 Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap at Santa Anita After a lengthy delay, Oak Tree stewards Ingrid Fermin, Dennis Nevin and Tom Ward ruled Alphabet Soup, the 4-5 favorite who finished a length in front of Savinio, interfered with Savinio and Dare And Go passing the wire the first time in the 1 1/8-mile race. To the sound of some of the loudest boos heard at a local track in years and to the displeasure of jockey Chris McCarron and trainer David Hofmans, the 5-year-old roan was disqualified and placed third behind Savinio and Dare And Go, who was making his first start since upsetting Cigar in the Pacific Classic almost two months earlier. While watching a head-on shot of the incident, Ward explained the stewards' position. "The three horse [Powerful Punch, who finished last in the field of four], bobbles at the break, drops out of and isn't a factor," said Ward. "[Alphabet Soup] angles toward the rail and everybody has plenty of room now. "There's continued pressure, just a gradual drift inside. You can take a look at these tractor marks [a tractor pulls the starting gate into position] and see where he started. "Now, [Alex] Solis [on Dare And Go] has got to make a decision, the turn is coming up and he's got to get back out of there. When he does, his horse gets a little rank with him and he ends up breaking stride and losing position. "You couldn ...

Dominus - 2012 Bernard Baruch (G2) [01:57]
Making his first start on turf, Dominus led every step under a measured ride from Julien Leparoux and rolled to a 1 ¼-length victory over even-money favorite Data Link in Saturday's Grade 2, $250000 Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga Race Course. The 4-year-old Smart Strike ridgling, who got an eight-pound break in the weights from the favorite, went to the lead a few strides out of the gate and galloped through unpressured fractions of 24.29, 48.63 and 1:12.26 over the firm turf. Accelerating as he came out of the far turn, Dominus quickly opened up on his five rivals and was never seriously threatened by Data Link's late run. "He was the only speed in the race, he just galloped easy, broke easy, and it was pretty easy for him," said Leparoux. "It was very nice for me at the end. He's a nice horse. First time on the grass, he was relaxed." Dominus's winning time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:40.32.

Mystical Star - 2012 New York S. (G2) [02:24]
Mystical Star atoned for her previous misbehavior in the starting gate by breaking in a timely manner and turning back Aruna's stretch run to win Belmont Park's Grade 2, $200000 New York for turf fillies and mares on Saturday. In her previous race, Belmont's Grade 2 Sheepshead Bay on May 26, Mystical Star found herself 19 lengths behind at the first call after beating the gate, rearing up, and veering inward. She closed resolutely to be third under the finish line before being disqualified and placed last of eight for her premature start. This time, Mystical Star was away in second as she tracked long shot pacesetter The Underling for a half-mile before assuming command along the backstretch while receiving pressure from Hit It Rich. Set down as the field turned for home, Mystical Star kicked away from Hit It Rich, then gave Sheepshead Bay winner Aruna the cold shoulder to register a one-length victory. Mystical Star, a 4-year-old who went off as the 9-2 fourth choice, paid $11.80 for a $2 win wager and completed 1 ¼ miles over the firm inner turf course in 2:00.17.

CC's Pal - 2012 Vagrancy Handicap (G2) [01:55]
Fighting back along the rail after losing the lead in deep stretch, CC's Pal put away favored Nicole H in the final jumps Saturday afternoon to take the 62nd running of the Grade 2, $200000 Vagrancy Handicap at Belmont Park by a neck. Sent right to the front by jockey Junior Alvarado, CC's Pal was able to set unpressured fractions of 23.55 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 47.07 for the half before Nicole H began moving up on the turn. Once straightened for home, Nicole H charged up on the outside and stuck a nose in front with 110 yards to go, only to relinquish the lead to the game CC's Pal in the final strides. Her winning time for the 6 ½ furlongs was 1:16.10.
