Pacing Horse Showing The standardbred is recognised for its ability to race in harness, either at a trot or a pace, rather than under a saddle in jump and flat races. This breed of horse was developed in North America and its unique characteristics make it an ideal competitor in harness races. The standardbred has a well-muscled, long body; however, it is smaller and heavier than the thoroughbred. With its solid legs and powerful shoulders, the standardbred is perfectly suited for the pulling of the sulky (term for the cart used in harness racing). Lewis Hammilton last 5 Laps GP ABU DHABI 2012 LEWIS HAMMILTON POLE POSITION Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton,[1] MBE (born 7 January 1985) is a British Formula One racing driver from England, currently racing for the McLaren team. He is the 2008 Formula One World Champion. Hamilton was born in Stevenage, Hertfordshire.[2] In December 1995, at the age of ten, he approached McLaren team principal Ron Dennis at the Autosport Awards ceremony and told him, "I want to race for you one day ... I want to race for McLaren." Less than three years later McLaren and Mercedes-Benz signed him to their Young Driver Support Programme.[3] After winning the British Formula Renault, Formula Three Euroseries, and GP2 championships on his way up the racing career ladder,[3] he drove for McLaren in 2007, making his Formula One debut 12 years after his initial encounter with Dennis.
