Nicole H - 2011 Distaff (G2) [01:40]
Nicole H picked up her third straight victory and first in a graded stakes with a facile score in the Saturday's Grade 2 Distaff Handicap for fillies and mares at Aqueduct Racetrack. Freshened following a pair of stakes wins over the inner track in the December 4 Garland of Roses Handicap and January 1 Interborough, Nicole H prompted the pace three-wide in third as Wild News carved out an opening quarter mile in 23.90. Claiming the lead without being asked by jockey Channing Hill following a half in 46.81, she drew away under minimal urging to prevail by 2 ½ lengths over Wild News. "She seemed like the best filly in the race and I rode her that way and just tried to keep her happy," said Hill. Nicole H, the 4-5 favorite, returned $3.90 for a $2 win wager to her backers in the crowd 5481 and completed seven furlongs in 1:23.29. "She just dragged him up there at the three-eighths pole," said Mike Hushion, who trains the 4-year-old for GEM Racing. "I felt awfully good at that point. Everyone else was driving, and she was just dragging him up. She was fresher than she usually is in the paddock, but when the gates opened, that first quarter-mile, thankfully, she got to settle the way you would have hoped the first time going seven-eighths against these." Nicole H, who began her career competing for trainer David Hofmans on artificial surfaces and turf in Southern California, is now 4-1-0 in seven starts since being transferred to Hushion and switched to conventional dirt ...

Zenyatta : the 2010 Breeders Cup Classic - Handicapping [03:49]
On Friday Nov. 5 & Saturday November 6, 2010, many of the world's top horses will come together @ historic Churchill Downs. The main event is usually considered the Classic, run @ 1 & a quarter miles, is worth $5 million to the owners of the winning horse. For many, the star of the show is undoubtedly the 6 yr old mare Zenyatta, who beat the boys last year, and is still undefeated after 19 races. Not only is she a real character, she's smart, and tough. She loves to win, & has endeared herself to many people. I'd love to see her finish her career with a win here, since she is my favourite horse. But I really don't think it's going to happen. As a bettor, I will be backing other horses, & including her in exotics. She'll be coming, but too late to beat all of these. Good luck everyone, & enjoy this historic weekend. Thanks for watching & do reply with your thoughts!

New York Watch: Ruthenia [02:01]
Ruthenia has a high bar to clear if she wants to duplicate the success achieved by her full-sister, but an impressive debut at Belmont Park is a pretty good start. Despite her pedigree, the daughter of Pulpit was dismissed at 20-1 on Monday in a one-mile event on Belmont's Widener turf course, and the full-sister to the 2005 Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks winner Rutherienne made her doubters pay by drawing off under Alan Garcia's hand encouragement to win by 3 ½ lengths. Ruthenia, who covered the distance in 1:37.40 and ran the final quarter mile in a snappy 23.34 seconds, becomes the latest horse to join the New York Watch, which profiles up-and-comers that have recently cleared the maiden ranks at Aqueduct, Belmont Park, and Saratoga. "There was no reason for her to have been a long price," trainer Christophe Clement said of Ruthenia, who races for her breeder, Virginia Kraft Payson. "Good for the guys who picked her! She had trained well and had shown a good turn of foot in the morning. Even though she is smaller, she moved well." Clement and Payson were also the team behind Rutherienne, who won 10 stakes in her career, including the Sugar Plum Time, Grade 3 Sands Point, Grade 3 Lake George, and Grade 3 Noble Damsel Handicap in New York. Off the board just four times in 20 starts, Rutherienne earned nearly $1.3 million. "Rutherienne was also small," said Clement when asked to compare Ruthenia to her older sister. "She was sometimes difficult to train, as some of the Pulpits are ...
