One of Eliza's friends Peter Gordon is co owner in a small syndicate of 'Tickity Bleue' an exciting prospect for next season trained by Alan King . She was beaten on this ocassion by Glorious Twelfth from the Nicky Henderson yard; but had beaten it on her sole run previously at Newbury. The big tests is always Cheltenham to see if a horse copes with the hill; and also they were unsure about the soft going but she handled it well. The race was a 'bumper' - an introduction to racecourse action for future jumpers but on the flat; also known as a 'National Hunt flat race'. Tickity Bleue was giving weight to Glorious Twelfth (and the rest of the runners) because of the fact she'd won before; but the latter is a 5 year old. The last race of the day on a filthy afternoon; many racegoers had departed and as a result have probably missed two of the new stars of next season...

The 'Jargon Buster' quiz is designed to enlighten ocassional and regular racegoers alike by illuminating the meaning of some of the technical expressions in the sport.. Edward Gillespie as usual gets involved hands on in the racecourse activities by chairing the quiz. Edward received a well deserved lifetime achievement award recently . His Theatre interests also probably help him in this particular activity!

Eliza with Cerys and her horse 'Casino Royale' [02:42]
After a first visit to the Races for Eliza's friend Cerys, the morning after is spent at a Livery yard near Preston. Cerys had worked at a racing stables in the past but had never been to the races. She has a beautiful strong horse called Cassie; or Casino Royale; with who she is hoping to do eventing or dressage. Cassie is an exciting prospect. Watch how while Cerys scaratches her withers the horse responds in a mutual grooming reaction. Horsey folk call this 'whiffling'. Cerys tells me how much she enjoyed her first trip to the races and how a pink hat is on her wish list for her next trip!
