1995 Florida Derby Day & Jerry Bailey's Record Setting 7 Wins [23:38]
Jerry Bailey rode seven winners today at Gulfstream Park but missed the big one by a nose when Suave Prospect lost a photo finish to Thunder Gulch and Mike Smith in the 44th Florida Derby. In a driving duel between the two top horses and jockeys at the track, Thunder Gulch made it two straight in the "Florida triple" series. Only three weeks ago he had been flown from California by D. Wayne Lukas and won the Fountain of Youth Stakes by a neck over Suave Prospect, who is trained by Nick Zito. And the two colts now seem locked in a rivalry that may continue until the Kentucky Derby on May 6, when they will be joined by a delegation from the West. "Right now, Thunder Gulch is king of the hill in the East," Lukas said. "Our horse was game, his horse was game. Both horses took large steps forward. They're like Affirmed and Alydar. But we've got their horse's number. We'll break his heart eventually." To which Zito responded, "There's always Kentucky." But even though he lost the main event by a nose, no rider ever had a better afternoon at Gulfstream Park than Bailey, and few anywhere else. The 37-year-old Texan rode 10 horses and made the winner's circle seven times. Along the way, he broke the track record of six victories set in six races in 1953 by Charlie Burr, and also tied the stakes record of four set in 1988 by Randy Romero, also on Florida Derby day. But he couldn't quite reach the national record of eight, set by seven jockeys, most recently by Pat Day at Arlington ...

1991 Kentucky Derby: Full ABC Broadcast [01:09:44]
Supposedly suffering from slow workouts, fast competition and even the wrong pedigree, Strike the Gold won the 117th Kentucky Derby today with a rousing end run through the homestretch that defeated Best Pal by nearly two lengths and buried the other favorites by much more. The 3-year-old colt, often called "a horse of destiny" by his trainer, Nick Zito, had won only two races before he entered the starting gate for the most prestigious race of all. But he won this one with a dramatic move to the outside as the 16 colts turned for home. And once clear of the herd, he zoomed through the stretch, overtook Sea Cadet, outraced Best Pal and won all the roses. At the finish, in a race billed as a free-for-all among four star colts, Strike the Gold had 1 3/4 lengths on Best Pal, the speed horse from California. Then it was 1 3/4 lengths to Mane Minister, who went off at 86-1 and paid $25.60 for $2 just for running third. Next came another outsider, Green Alligator, a 16-1 shot, and then came the champion: Fly So Free, winner of the Eclipse Award last year as the best juvenile colt in the country. And far up the track in 10th place came Hansel, the record-setting winner of the Jim Beam Stakes and the favorite with the betting public when the horses went to the post today. Sea Cadet, another California speedball, played his proper role by taking the lead and holding it until he was nailed in the stretch and faded to eighth. Zito, an emotional man who dreams that "the Pearly Gates ...

Rodeo Memories on the Ground - [2012 Henry County Rodeo] [04:29]
My son and I decided to go film the 2012 Henry County Rodeo in Georgia with our Sony FS700 slow motion camera. Every time we hit record we learn. ========================================================= PLEASE PROVIDE FEEDBACK... GOOD OR BAD ... IT'S HOW I LEARN TO BE A BETTER FILMMAKER :) ========================================================= Our goals for the video shoot was as follows: 1. To further test out the 240 and 480FPS camera options to create some unique slow motion. 2. To practice focus pulling on live action. (Having hard focus stops with my new follow focus really helped set the fence boundaries on the arena and then pull focus between them) 3. My son needed more time behind the Canon 5D he is still learning the art. 4. Work with footage ramping in post to continue to use the new slow motion in new and exciting ways. We had a blast very nice cloud cover to create some good lighting for the day, we lucked out. We meet some great people who travel all around the southeast doing rodeos, real down to earth good Americans! Thanks for putting on a great show! The announcer called my son out during the show over the loud speakers. "What is this world coming to when you have a 5 year old running around with $4000 worth of camera gear!" LOL it was pretty funny. Everything was shot in 240 or 480FPS except 24FPS on Canon 5D. Graded with: PP6 settings with Colorista and Looks Grading in Post I added a film grain to the whole piece to give it a gritty feel, thoughts ...

1990 Kentucky Derby: Full ABC Broadcast [01:08:43]
Unbridled soared past Summer Squall through the stretch to score a surprising 3 1/2-length victory today in the 116th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. A race that had figured to be decided by inches ended instead with a runaway winner and a dozen lengths separating the first four finishers. Unbridled, a 10-1 shot who finished 3 3/4 lengths behind Summer Squall in the Blue Grass Stakes three weeks ago, looked much the best reversing that decision today and was increasing his winning margin with every stride to the wire. Summer Squall finished six lengths in front of Pleasant Tap, a 40-1 shot, and it was another three lengths back to Video Ranger in fourth. Silver Ending, Killer Diller, Land Rush, Mister Frisky, Thirty Six Red, Power Lunch, Real Cash, Dr. Bobby A., Pendleton Ridge, Burnt Hills and Fighting Fantasy completed the finish in that order. Mister Frisky, sent off as the 19-10 favorite by a small margin over Summer Squall, who was 2-1, came into the race with a record of 16 for 16, the best record in Derby history. But the popular colt, who made his first 13 starts in Puerto Rico, faded badly after seven furlongs and finished eighth, beaten by 19 1/4 lengths. Unbridled, a son of the Mr. Prospector stallion Fappiano and the Le Fabuleux mare Gana Facil, paid $23.60 for $2 to win as the fifth betting choice and ran the mile and a quarter in a solid 2:02 under Craig Perret. The bay-colored colt, bred in Florida by Tartan Farms, is owned by Frances A. Genter, who is ...
