Crystal Brook Pony Club Gymkhana 2008 [01:43]
The Crystal Brook Pony Club Gymkhana was my first and Doogal's first competition ever! We won: - Walk-trot dressage = 1st place ribbon - Apple Bobbing = 1st place ribbon - Egg and Spoon Race = 1st place ribbon - Barrel Racing = 2nd place ribbon - Bending Race = 2nd place ribbon - Can Race = 2nd place ribbon - Obstacle Course = 3rd place ribbon and everyone got a brown ribbon with "Crystal Brook Pony Club Gymkhana" written on it for showjumping. Doogal went well in almost everything, but in dressage he looked at every marker/letter and in the showjumping (poles on the fround) he stopped and did a poo at the first jump, then reversed twice at the second (though Gay (judge) didn't think he was close enough to the pole for it to be a refusal). He hesitated at jumps 4A and 7, but I am still extremely happy with the end result. My prizes were: a blue halter, horse shampoo and a horse calendar for 2009. :)

2010 Maryland Hunt Cup [09:36]
The pinnacle of steeplechase racing in the US: the Maryland Hunt Cup. There are 22 solid fences, and some appear to be more that 5 feet high, on this bruising 4 mile race for a $75000 purse. Grand National winner "Across The Sky" came across the pond to compete, and lead almost the whole way until a refusal with just a few fences to go, allowing "Twill Do" to win. It appears to me that no horse or rider was seriously hurt, but some of the jockeys took a little long to get up. That's gotta hurt. I wonder if they could do better with those new inflatable air vests. I've been riding a former timber racer for several years now, and I was very curious to see the world he came from. He most certainly did not compete at this level. Shot with a Lumix GH1 at 720/60P, 45-200 mm lens, except at fence 6 which was done with a Sanyo FH1 at 1080/60P. Thanks to JB for camera work.
