Ema Bovary, already a stakes winner in her native Chile, earned her first victory in the United States by holding off Lacie Girl, then the reigning Northern California female sprinter, in the 2003 Soviet Problem Handicap. The daughter of Edgy Diplomat would go on to win the 2004 Madison at Keeneland and Grade 2 Princess Rooney Handicap at Calder. Roberto Gonzalez rode for trainer Larry Ross.

Here is some footage from Bay Meadows Racecourse my father shot with the family camcorder in the mid 1980s. The opening exterior shot was filmed in the spring or summer of 1984, while the racing footage was filmed on December 26, 1985. Jockeys mentioned in this video include Hall of Famer Russell Baze (then 27-years-old), Vicki Aragon (now Vicki Baze after marrying Russell's cousin, Gary), Chad Schvaneveldt, Ken Tohill, and retired riders Roberto Gonzalez, Chris Lamance, and Tom Chapman. Miss Chanago, the filly who won the $17000 allowance feature that day and who was described by father described as a "damn nice horse," was ridden by Marco Castaneda for Bill Morey, Jr. It'd be her final career start. John Gibson was the track announcer.
