Claiming Races - Come Home [[150 subscribers]] [02:31]
I think this will be my 150 subs video cos it's the first video in a while that I even half like...thank you all so much, i never thought i would get even 10 so thank you!! Sorry for the recycled clips but...so anyway, this is supposed to be about claiming races. I know the quote from Dreamer is overused but it is so true. In racing horses come and go and even if you're really attached to a horse you have to content yourself with the fact that somewhere they're still around, even if they're now on the other side of the country. Otherwise you could never survive in this game. You've got to learn to let go. But the problem with claimers and sellers is that while you always know there's a possibility of the horse not coming home, you don't know if they're going to get claimed right until the last minute. That makes the race even more tense to watch. It's happened to me a few times and it's really awful. Fortunately they never got claimed or were always bid back, but it's still not a nice thing. But still, horses come and go all the time getting sold privately etc, so there's always someone to miss. This is what this is about, the people who miss thm most which is the lads that look after them and the people that work with them at home. The quote is absolutely true. It might seem exaggereated, but believe me it is one hundred percent correct. If the money or the circumstances are right, "every racehorse, everywhere in the world, right now is for sale". Ps. If you read this ...

1996 Jockey Club Gold Cup + Post Race [09:35]
Cigar made a noble but losing farewell to racing in New York yesterday when he was beaten by a head by Skip Away in the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup. It was only the second time in his last 19 races that the 6-year-old super horse had been outrun, but it also was the second time in his last three starts. So, age, luck and fast horses may be catching up to him. He gave it a special poignancy by staging a valiant rally through the homestretch, but missed by the length of Skip Away's head. And while it took two horses to spring the trap that ended Cigar's 16-race winning streak at Del Mar in August, this time it took just one very swift, very tough 3-year-old. As they streaked to the finish, Skip Away was fighting on the inside to keep his lead and Cigar was charging on the outside to snatch it. And flying at their heels came two other 3-year-old stars, Louis Quatorze, two lengths behind Cigar, and Editor's Note, one length behind Louis Quatorze. ''I'd just be whining if I made excuses,'' said Bill Mott, who trains Cigar for Allen Paulson of California. ''I don't feel uncomfortable about anything that's happened. I thought he ran a pretty darned good race. He had a little more left to do at the half-mile pole than he normally has to, but that doesn't mean we're making excuses.'' Jerry Bailey, who rode Cigar through his record-tying winning streak, put it bluntly: ''I ran second. I ran into a horse who ran an exceptional race. I have to tip my hat to the winner. I knew it ...
