A mother brings her two year old boy to visit Zenyatta at her barn at Churchill Downs, 11/71/10. At first the little boy cries to get near the horse, but then when he gets close to her, he gets scared the way little children do when they meet Santa Claus. Zenyatta, who luckily has her cotton in her ears, nuzzles the mom's head as they pose next to her. Mario smiles. Sometimes we all need earplugs and Guinness.

四位は「是非、この馬でダービーに出たい」と昨年のウオッカに続く東京優駿連覇に意欲を示した。関係者間の協議の結果、中2週での東京優駿に出走が決定した。 当日は皐月賞優勝馬キャプテントゥーレの不在もあり、1番人気に支持される。レースでは後方内側で待機策を採ると、最後の直線では大外から13頭を次々に交わし、残り100m付近で先頭のスマイルジャックを捉えて優勝。2004年キングカメハメハ以来史上2頭目となる、NHKマイルカップ、東京優駿連覇の「変則二冠」を達成、同時に四位も武豊に次ぐ史上2人目のダービー連覇を達成した。
