TV spot equestrian sports 2012 "At the Heart of Passion" [00:31]
Longines sweeps you deep into the heart of the equestrian action in which it is today passionately involved. Its new commercial was shot in the grandiose setting of the Chantilly Racecourse, where Longines is the official timekeeper and where the Prix de Diane Longines is staged. Film director Cyril Clapin's camera takes you backstage for the weighing-in, where the jockeys fine-tune their concentration, and into the stalls where the horses themselves are being readied. From the palpable tension prior to a race to the collective shiver at the starting gun, you'll live the dramatic seconds ticked off by the race chronograph and experience the beauty and power of the galloping horses. Jockey and mount are then but one... Celebrating its 180th anniversary in 2012, Longines is the invaluable partner of the world's most celebrated horse races.

On the Acceleration and Speed of a Racehorse [06:25]
Horse racing uses a running start where the starting gate is placed back from the point where the race clock starts. This video tries to answer the questions: 1. How fast does a horse get from the gate to the start? 2. How fast is it going when it gets there? and 3. How does this speed compare to its speed at the finish? I use the technique described in my earlier video "How to Measure Instantaneous Speed with a Camcorder" to answer these questions. It makes use of interlaced video to display two images displaced in time by half a frame time, about 1/60sec.

Jazil - 2006 Belmont Stakes [03:00]
Neither the Kentucky Derby or Preakness winner made the starting gate for the Belmont Stakes, and it was the diminutive Jazil who capitalized. His eighteen-year-old jockey Fernando Jara and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin both won their first Belmont Stakes. It was also the first of two consecutive wins for broodmare Better Than Honour. Final time: 2:27.86 Owner: Shadwell Stable Trainer: Kiaran McLaughlin Jockey: Fernando Jara

Jonathan Horowitz Announcing the 2012 Kentucky Derby at a Bar [00:55]
Interesting Kentucky Derby story... I was at a bar called the Green Room in Philadelphia watching the Derby. The bartender and some people at the bar asked me to announce the race, and so they turned the volume down on the TVs and had me commentate. The bartender took this video of the end of the race. I was actually quite pleased with my call announcing twenty horses off a TV in a bar. Before the race I approached the bartender with an empty beer glass saying, "I'll Have Another." She poured me another drink but refused to book my bet! I'm looking forward to returning to Arapahoe Park outside Denver starting at the end of this month. I will resist the temptation to call the races from a bar at the track.
