Ghostzapper vs. Saint Liam - 2004 Woodward (G1) [02:11]
In winning six of his first eight career starts, Stronach Stable's Ghostzapper always had breathing room. Okay, there was that one race he won by a half-length, but other margins of his victories ranged from four and quarter to 10 and three-quarter lengths. He was obviously a good horse, but no one was really sure how tough he was. Saturday afternoon, 10251 Belmont Park fans got their answer. Sent off as the 2-5 post-time favorite, Ghostzapper dug in under jockey Javier Castellano after being forced to the middle of the track by Saint Liam, endured bumping and still managed to win the 51st running of the Grade 1, $500000 Woodward fro three-year-olds and up at nine furlongs -- the Opening Weekend feature of Belmont Park's Fall Championship Meet. Not only Ghostzapper he win in spite of not having everything go his way, his winning time of 1:46 1/5 rivaled that of Mineshaft last year and In Excess in the 1991 Woodward. Only Forego, who won the 1976 Woodward in 1:45 4/5 carrying 135 pounds, Dispersal, who carried 123 and won the 1990 Woodward in 1:45 4/5; and Precisionist, who won the 1986 Woodward in 1:46, have run this race faster. Precisionist, Mineshaft and Ghostzapper all carried 126 pounds in their Woodwards.

1998 Saratoga Breeders Cup Handicap [00:46]
On a day when the thrills and echoes of the Travers Stakes were still settling over the old Saratoga race track, Awesome Again lived up to his name today when he stalked the leaders into the homestretch and then swept past to win the Saratoga Breeders' Cup by three lengths and score his fourth straight victory. He is a 4-year-old son of Deputy Minister and has had a pretty good run of success in August the last couple of years. Last year, he won the Jim Dandy Stakes and ran third in the Travers. This year, he won the $400000 Whitney Handicap three weeks ago and returned to win the $300000 Saratoga Breeders' Cup. He is 4 for 4 this year and hasn't lost since last September. ''This horse just loves this race track,'' said Patrick Byrne, the trainer of Awesome Again. ''I knew Awesome Again would kick in when he had to. I couldn't have asked for more. ''The Breeders' Cup Classic in November is definitely in mind, and that's what we're shooting for. We'd like to get him to the Classic undefeated this year.'' Pat Day, winning his sixth stakes of the Saratoga meeting, kept his horse tucked in behind Dogwood Stable's Early Warning and George Steinbrenner's Concerto for a mile, and then made his move. ''We relaxed off Concerto,'' Day said, ''but we didn't want him to get too far away from us. At the three-eighths pole, we had him in our sights. ''Coming to the three-sixteenths pole, we had him where we wanted. I just bided my time from there, and called on him at the sixteenth ...
