1989 Oak Tree Invitational Handicap [04:27]
Under Russell Baze, who hadn't been on him since the colt won the first race of his life at Del Mar in 1988, Hawkster rolled to a huge lead early before 34866 fans and was still rolling at the finish. He won the Oak Tree by four lengths over Pay the Butler in a time of 2:22 4/5, the fastest 1 1/2 miles ever run, and a time that's considered a world record even though horses going that distance at Santa Anita have the advantage of running the start of the race downhill. Hawkster earned $300000 for his owner, Shelly Meredith of Del Mar, with Baze earning 10% of that for the biggest one-race payoff of his 16-year career. Baze, 31, won the Oak Tree with Both Ends Burning in 1984 when first place was worth $240000. Hawkster, undefeated in four grass starts after going two for 13 on dirt and finishing fifth in all of the Triple Crown races, is a leading candidate for an Eclipse Award on turf. Meredith is not leaning toward running in the $2-million Breeders' Cup Turf at Gulfstream Park, which would require a $240000 supplementary entry payment. Other choices include the Hollywood Derby and the Japan Cup, but no matter where Hawkster races, McAnally made it clear that Baze will continue to ride him. "Pat (Valenzuela) is awfully talented," McAnally said, "but he's not reliable and what happened today really left me hanging. Neither Pat or his agent (Jerry Ingordo) contacted me, and then they weren't to be found. I had to find out from the other agents. "We put Pat on this horse ...
1994 Jockey Club Gold Cup [12:16]
Holy Bull, resting in his stall in Kentucky, probably scored the greatest victory of his career yesterday when Colonial Affair won the $750000 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park and knocked Tabasco Cat out of contention for Horse of the Year. On a day billed as New York's preview of the Breeders' Cup series, Colonial Affair made a power drive from sixth place and outran Devil His Due to the wire by two and a half lengths, giving senior horses a sweep of the top spots. Less than one length back came the European traveler Flag Down, and then it was half a length to Tabasco Cat, winner of the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. And far, far away in last place came Go for Gin, winner of the Kentucky Derby and another beaten candidate for post-season honors. The loss meant that Tabasco Cat had no chance to snatch the championship from Holy Bull, who went home for the year after winning 8 of his 10 races in dramatic fashion. And it meant that whoever wins the Breeders' Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5 also has no chance to catch Holy Bull for the sport's top prize. "Holy Bull is a charismatic horse," said Wayne Lukas, the trainer of Tabasco Cat. "I would like to see him make some more of the classics. But if he's Horse of the Year, I'll stand up at the awards dinner and applaud. "I felt we were in a position where we needed to win today to sway the vote." But Lukas, whose personal and professional fortunes have been rallied this year by Tabasco Cat, still surfaced as a ...
6º etapa Kart - RBC [44:23]
Avante Black Horse.
Crush Flatting - January 7th 2013 [06:20]
Flatwork of Crush on January 7th, 2013. I rode him yesterday with completely disconnected stirrups and he was great, but the reason I lunged him today before my hack was because we got freezing rain the night before, and it was wet, cold, and very windy. I just lunged him for 5 - 10 minutes so he wouldn't be silly. Asking price is $4500. Please contact me if interested.
