Where to begin.... I've been working on this video since 10th April 2010, a date which sticks in my mind because it was the day that Tony McCoy finally won the Grand National on his 15th attempt. It was wonderful to watch this normally quiet, restrained man visibly rejoice and show his emotion. This reminded me of Mick Kinane's Arc triumph on the great Sea The Stars, the horse that stayed his retirement for one more season, and what a season that turned out to be! This video may not be perfect, but what work of art is? This song leapt out at me because having spoken to, heard and seen winning jockeys the overriding feeling I get is that, if only for a moment, as they cross that finish line they are on top of the world; they are invincible. I've tried my best to bottle that feeling and put it into my favourite format -- video. So apologies for the long, waffling description, I promise there will be cyber-pie (approved by Dean Winchester) for those who got this far, but I just wanted to give a background to the most epic (in scale, I'm not blowing my own trumpet) video I've made to date. The knowledge that just a few people may be touched by this video kept me going through the hours of tedious masking (frame after gorramm frame), chroma keying, colour correcting and the endless previews I rendered and forced my friends & family to watch. Your comments make it worthwhile, because in my opinion the response from others is what defines 'art'. NOW GO AND WATCH SUPERNTURAL. ALL ...

1996 凱旋門賞(G1) エリシオ Helissio ピルサドスキー2着 [02:41]
9月のニエル賞も制して臨んだ凱旋門賞では1番人気に支持されると2着ピルサドスキーに5馬身差をつけて優勝した。ペリエがゴールよりも遥か手前でガッツポーズを始めるほどの楽勝だった。その後日本に遠征しジャパンカップに参戦したがシングスピール、ファビラスラフインに交わされ3着に敗れた。この年の活躍が評価され、カルティエ賞年度代表馬、最優秀3歳牡馬、最優秀3歳馬に選出され、インターナショナル・クラシフィケーションではシガーの135ポンドに次ぐ134ポンドが与えられた。 凱旋門賞でペリエは大逃げという戦法を選んだが、ペリエは後のインタビューでこの戦法について「日本で騎乗していなかったら、このような大胆な戦法をとることはできなかった」と語っている。

2001 凱旋門賞(G1) サキー 6馬身差圧勝劇 デットーリが惚れた名馬 [02:52]
2001年7月の準重賞でランフランコ・デットーリを背に約1年ぶりに復帰し、勝利を収めると、次走のインターナショナルステークスでは2着のグランデラに7馬身差をつける大勝。念願のG1を制覇する。その後はチャンピオンステークスに向かう予定であったが、デットーリの要望で凱旋門賞に出走し、6馬身差で圧勝する。続いてダートのブリーダーズカップ・クラシックに出走しティズナウのハナ差2着と健闘。そのため陣営は翌年のドバイワールドカップに目標を定める。しかし、プレップレースであるドバイの一般競走を快勝したものの、本番のドバイワールドカップでは、同じくゴドルフィン所属の勝ち馬ストリートクライから8馬身半離された3着と完敗した。その後は状態面の問題から復帰がずれ込み、8月のG3競走ゴントービロン賞で戦列に戻ったものの格下のメンバーを相手に2着敗戦。本調子を取り戻せないことからこのレースを最後に引退し、種牡馬入りした。
