1994 Jockey Club Gold Cup [12:16]
Holy Bull, resting in his stall in Kentucky, probably scored the greatest victory of his career yesterday when Colonial Affair won the $750000 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park and knocked Tabasco Cat out of contention for Horse of the Year. On a day billed as New York's preview of the Breeders' Cup series, Colonial Affair made a power drive from sixth place and outran Devil His Due to the wire by two and a half lengths, giving senior horses a sweep of the top spots. What began as a one day, 7-race event has grown into a two-day, $26 million extravaganza attracting the best horses, trainers, and owners from across the globe. And while these two days have seen legends born, history made, and fortunes won, the greatest part is that the best is still yet to come.
