1996 Caesars International Handicap - ESPN Broadcast [43:47]
Sandpit parlayed inside position, a slow pace and a strong finish into a one and three-quarter length victory over Diplomatic Jet today in the $500000 Caesars International Handicap at Atlantic City Race Course. Corey Nakatani kept the 7-year-old Brazilian-bred tucked along the hedge throughout the one-and-three-sixteenths-mile turf race. Sandpit outran the competition to win in a very slow 1:553/5 . Sandpit, the 6-5 co-favorite with Northern Star, returned $4.40 for $2 to win. Diplomatic Jet was second and Northern Star third.
New York Watch: Funfair [01:30]
Trainer Christophe Clement, who in recent years has won major turf races for older horses like the Arlington Million, Beverly D., Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational, Man o' War, Shadwell Turf Mile, Sword Dancer Invitational, and Woodford Reserve Manhattan, continued his strong run with 2-year-olds during the 2012 Belmont spring/summer meet when Funfair debuted a 3 ½-length winner on the inner turf course. "This is a faster group of 2-year-olds [for me] than usual," said Clement, who unleashed impressive dirt winner Native One on July 4 and was second on the turf with Apple Cider on June 29. "It's nice for them to be doing well during this time of the year." Funfair demonstrated ample speed herself, dueling with Priscilla Marie, the lone starter with previous racing experience, to the furlong marker before shaking clear of the runner-up while being hand-ridden to the wire. Priscilla Marie was 2 ¾ lengths clear of third-place finisher Colorful Image. The final time for six furlongs was 1:08.63. Funfair paid $8.80 for a $2 win wager as the 3-1 second choice.

Clear Attempt - 2012 Poker S. (G3) [02:10]
Clear Attempt rewarded his connections for their confidence by springing an 8-1 upset in the Grade 3 Poker on Wednesday at Belmont, giving Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott and owners Martin and Pam Wygod their second straight victory in the one-mile turf race. Even though Clear Attempt was eligible for the second allowance condition, Mott and the Wygods, who won the 2011 Poker with Courageous Cat, decided to enter the regally bred 4-year-old in the $150000 Poker. The colt handled the rise in class with aplomb, tracking pacesetter Yield Bogey behind fractions of 48.12 and 1:11.22, wresting command in midstretch, and shrugging off a challenge from even-money favorite Compliance Officer to win by 1 ¾ lengths. Yield Bogey finished third, an additional half-length behind Compliance Officer.
