2012 Breeders' Cup contender - Acclamation makes it seven straight with easy Eddie Read repeat [02:55]
Allowed to walk the dog on the lead through slow fractions over 1 1/8-miles on Del Mar's turf course, Acclamation made 1-to-2 look like a gift, strolling home by 2 3/4-lengths over four rivals to win for the seventh straight time in graded stakes company while repeating in the $300000 Eddie Read (Grade I). "(Whether) he sets fast fractions or slow fractions, he always comes home," said jockey Patrick Valenzuela of the 2011 Eclipse-award Champion Older Horse. "I've ridden some champions like Sunday Silence and Arazi, but for any horse to go out and set the pace like that and come home the final quarter like he does, that's a true race horse." The win pushed career earnings to over $1.95 million for the 6-year-old California-bred son of Unusual Heat, who could attempt to repeat in the $1 million Pacific Classic at the end of August. Options are open for either the Breeders' Cup Classic or Turf as the end of the year goal at Santa Anita. "Acclamation and Tom Knust (Valenzuela's agent) made this comeback happen," said Valenzuela, who returned from yet another retirement earlier this year. "My weight's good and I just want to get more winners." A champion in Argentina, Interaction rallied for second at 11-to-1 in his fourth US start and Casino Host rounded out the trifecta at 6-to-1 making his first start in the barn of Ron Ellis.

1989 Belmont Stakes: Full ABC Broadcast [01:05:24]
Easy Goer finally lived up to his spectacular promise of early spring yesterday when he roared past Sunday Silence on the turn for home and won the 121st Belmont Stakes by eight lengths. In doing so, he prevented Sunday Silence from becoming racing's 12th Triple Crown winner. Earlier this year, Easy Goer looked like the next Secretariat, a colt of limitless potential who might set new standards of excellence. Then, after second-place finishes in the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, Easy Goer seemed likelier to emulate his father, Alydar, who in 1978 became the only horse to finish second in all three Triple Crown races, losing each leg of the Triple Crown to Affirmed. But yesterday, there was talk of Secretariat again. Easy Goer's winning Belmont time of 2:26.01 under Pat Day over a fast but not unusually quick track was the second-fastest Belmont ever, behind only Secretariat's 1973 world-record clocking of 2:24. Easy Goer's performance ranks as one of the most impressive in the history of the sport. $1 Million Bonus Sunday Silence actually earned more in defeat than the winner's purse of $413520, getting a $1 million Triple Crown bonus for the best overall record in the three races. But he would have earned $2.5 million more, and a certain place in the sport's Hall of Fame, with a victory. Instead, he might be considered only the second-best 3-year-old of this year unless he can beat Easy Goer again. Easy Goer, a chestnut-colored son of Alydar and Relaxing, bred and ...
