Cape Blanco - 2011 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (G1) [02:57]
Odds-on favorite Cape Blanco narrowly retained his unbeaten record in the United States, holding off longshot Dean's Kitten to take the 35th running of the Grade 1, $500000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic on "Super Saturday" at Belmont Park. A well-traveled 4-year-old, Cape Blanco shadowed Mission Approved in second placed through fractions of 52.42, 1:19.37, 1:44.92 and was put to a drive by jockey Jamie Spencer after dispatching the pacesetter midway on the second turn. The favorite took a clear lead into the stretch but was tested to the wire by Dean's Kitten, whose rally fell a nose short. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Cape Blanco completed 1 ½ miles on yielding turf in 2:36.61 and returned $3.20 for a $2 win wager as the 3-5 favorite.

Roger at TJ Park Equestrian Center - flat work [04:12]
Disclaimer Under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "fair use" for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favour of fair use. So here we are at our new yard, wahooooo! :D This property belongs to a friend of mine who has invited us to keep Rodge there so we can get some work done with him, as it's just too wet and slippery at home. This is just a bit of flatwork from today that we did, I've been working on getting him to stretch through his body and trying to loosen him a bit more, and improve his trot/canter work - so far so good. We've started a bit of leg yielding, and he's starting to get the hang of it, lol :) Not much news to report, as I only did a video the other day so enjoy! Luv Katie xx

Street Game - 2011 Hill Prince (G3) [01:58]
Sharp out of the gate and in control throughout, Street Game collected his first stakes victory Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park when he wired the field to post a mild upset in the Grade 3, $100000 Hill Prince. Although Humble and Hungry broke on top, Street Game came through swiftly to take the lead and guided the field through a quarter in 24.56 and an easy half-mile in 48.92. Opening up through the stretch despite rider Ryan Curatolo having lost his whip approaching the eighth pole, Street Game hit the wire 7 ¼-lengths in front of favored Air Support. The winner was clocked in 1:36.38 for a mile over yielding turf.

Lake & Ludlow 4.29.11.avi [02:46]
Lake and Ludlow ran a closing 5th in the 9th race today, Opening Day at Beautiful Belmont Park. He broke very sharply with the pack and rushed himself up into contention before he realized what was going on. The Jock said he was taken by surprise by all the action and just ran. Once "the Rocket" got a hold of him he got L&L to relax behind horses and save some run for the stretch. He did end up closing nicely passing horses in the stretch and got a 5th for his first time out. The positive thing is he was in contention at the beginning of the race, dropped back and then closed at the end against open horses many of them multiple starters. The yielding turf tired him out but he handled the turf very well. With a bit longer race and a firm course Bruce is confident that we will get the Big Prize with this horse. We had a great crowd and everybody had a good time! Thanks for all your support and patience, it was surely worth it!

Unsaddling after the Big Race at Belmont Park [01:00]
Here is a quick shot of Our Lake and Ludlow coming back from his first race. All the horses (except for the lucky winner who is headed to the Winner's Circle!) come back and meet their handlers. The Jockey dismounts and takes his tack and equipment with him to the scales to weigh in. He must weigh in with the same weight he was carrying before the race. After he weighs in then we approach him and get the needed feedback about the race and the horse's trip. In this case Jamie "the Rocket" Rodriguez was very excited about the way L&L ran. He said he was closing nicely at the end but got a bit tired. This may have been due to the very gooey yielding turf. He said next time we will see a great improvement because in his words "this horse is very competitive". That is great news to hear from the Jockey after a first race!
