Washington Racetracks
The State of Washington, located in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, has five world-class horse racing facilities that are well supported by both the industry and spectators alike. Opened in 1996, Emerald Downs horse racing track is located in Auburn Valley, with the spectacular Mount Rainier as a backdrop. Live horse racing action takes place from April through to October each year, with Emerald Downs hosting a series of thrilling handicaps and stakes, including the Seattle Handicap, Emerald Express Stakes, US Bank Stakes and WA State Legislators Stakes, with the highlight of the racing season being the historic Longacres Mile Handicap, which was first run in 1935. Other tracks in Washington State are Dayton Days, Sun Downs, Waitsburg and Walla Walla Fair Grounds.
The Washington Horse Racing Commission officials are appointed by the Governor of Washington State to serve a term of six years, during which time they represent the Commission in ensuring that all parties adhere to the rules and regulations set out to ensure the welfare of the horses, as well as maintaining the integrity of the industry.
