Glory at Hoosier Park
The Hoosier Cup Night takes place on 28 June 2008 at the Hoosier Park Racecourse. The total purses for the evening are estimated at over $1 million and the $100 000 Indiana Sire Stakes Final will be on the race card for this big event. In order to make it to the finals, horses and their drivers have been racing their hearts out at the qualifying legs of the Indiana Sire Stakes, with horses battling it out in their respective races. On Sunday, 15 June 2008, two races in the fourth leg saw two nail biting racing events unfold, with deserving horses walking away victorious.
No-one could have guessed that the Indiana Sire Stakes could get more exciting, after watching the magnificent win by EJ’s Copperstone and Don Irvine on Friday, 13 June 2008, in the three year old fillies division. But ABC Mercedes and Sweet Joe got the crowd to their feet in their three year old trotting racing divisions for geldings and colts.
In the second race of the day at Hoosier Park Racecourse, Seven Bends took the lead with a spectacular start out of gates, with ABC Mercedes not too far behind. As the field began to reach the half way mark, ABC Mercedes moved into first position, leaving Seven Bends to deal with the challenges posed by Donegal Ago Go and a determined Secret Image, who was closing in. But ABC Mercedes kept on widening the gap and finished the race without threat from other contenders. Secret Image came home in second position and Seven Bands took third position. The win on Sunday has kept ABC Mercedes on an undefeated streak and saw him improving his own best time.
As soon as the contenders for the fourth race of the day, the second Indiana Sires Stakes race, walked onto the track, spectators knew that they were getting ready for a magnificent race. Genesis Victory quickly took the lead from the start of the race, but Sweet Joe managed to close in on the leader and overtook Genesis Victory at an increasing speed. By the time Sweet Joe had passed the three quarter mark, he was leading by five lengths and widening the gap to seven lengths nearing the end of the race. Sweet Joe finished victorious, followed by American Flyer, Hesaflashysecret and Genesis Victory.
With such heart stopping action coming from the preliminary racing divisions, spectators and racing enthusiasts are looking forward to the Indiana Sire Stakes Finals, as it is anticipated to be as thrilling as the racing seen in the divisions of the Indiana Sire Stakes legs. With phenomenal horses and legendary drivers in the field, harness racing fans are advised not to miss the impending final.
