Kauto Star – National Hunt Racing

Kauto Star, pronounced “Kor-toe”, seems to be on everyone’s minds and lips especially concerning the Cheltenham Gold Cup. Kauto Star was born the 19th of March 2000. A French bred horse, Kauto Star is presently been trained by Paul Nicholls as a National Hunt racehorse in England.

In France Kauto Star began his career in racing with trainer Serge Foucher.

It was here that he came second at the BordeauxLeBouscat in a flat race. Interest was soon being given to this rising star and by the end of 2003 he was being placed in top class races. Group 1 Prix Cambarceres in Paris saw Kauto Star coming second to the Maia Eria in a high-profile race.

Kauto Star saw a few more defeats before he took a win at the French Gold Cup day. Clive Smith soon became owner of Kauto Star who had been noticed by Anthony Bromley, an agent, and had been informed of his being up for change of ownership. Kauto Star has been said to have changed ownership for approximately 285,000 pounds.

Not long after this exchange occurred Kauto Star was unveiled at an open day by Paul Nicholls. The Cheltenham Gold Cup is now in the open with the biggest concern being if Kauto Star can keep the endurance for the 3 ¼ mile race. He has shown himself to be quite versatile in both the 2 mile and 3 mile and shown his value by achieving a high standard and beating the very best. The course though is still one to be reckoned with and for a horse that is built for speed this could test him at 3 ¼ miles. Time will be the deciding factor in this one as to if he has the stamina to hold the track.

During the 2006 and 2007 season vital mistakes where made where it was necessary for him to have succeeded. These crucial mistakes came mainly through his jumping. Paul Nicholls has laid these mistakes down to a lack in concentration on behalf of Kauto Star. The Cheltenham course involves some tricky fences so this will be the time for Kauto Star to prove himself. Unfortunately much talk has overshadowed his achievements but throughout Kauto Star will give a good, solid fight to the end.
