Penn National Race Course was opened on 30 August 1972 by a group of civic leaders from Central Pennsylvania. Some 10,686 eager racegoers attended this opening event. During 1973 a hundred of Mountainview’s racing events were transferred to Penn National from Pitt Park. Penn National race track really began to flourish once it had a full race calendar, as well as with passing of legislation allowing racing on a Sunday.

Penn National Race Course in Pennsylvania is beautifully situated at the base of the Blue Mountains. The Main dirt track is 1 mile and oval-shaped and the length of the final stretch is 990 feet. The inner turf course is 7 furlongs. Racing takes place throughout the year with over 200 exciting race days. Among the fantastic races run at Penn National are the Penn National Distaff Handicap, Mario Beneito Memorial Handicap, Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup Handicap and Blue Mountain Futurity. Post times at Penn National race track are as follows: Wednesdays to Saturdays at 7:30; Sundays and holidays at 5:00 pm. In addition to top-class racing, Penn National offers a weekly schedule of simulcast racing and wagering. The race track has certainly taken advantage of new technology, and its races are broadcast to other racetracks in the United States and across the world.

Penn National Race Course will soon be adding to its already brilliant facilities. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board has given Penn National Gamin, Inc. (owners or Penn National) the go ahead for a Category 1 slot machine license. The Company is planning to place the machines in the new Hollywood Casino racing and gaming facility to be set up.
