West Virginia Racetracks
Much of the mountainous region of West Virginia was first explored by adventurous pioneers on horseback. Centuries later, men on horseback continue to generate excitement, but these days it is on the race tracks of West Virginia. The Charles Town Races and Slots is a first-class facility which was first opened in December 1933 and in subsequent years has become the venue for a host of thrilling races, with arguably the most popular being the West Virginia Breeders Classic. The Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort located along Route 2 in Chester, West Virginia, offers a complete getaway experience, with horse racing featuring prominently in the activities to enjoy.
The West Virgina Racing Commission is located in Charleston and has the responsibility of overseeing both the greyhound and horse racing industries in the State. The commission ensures that the industry adheres to rules and regulations which are in place for the benefit of all involved, but most especially for the welfare of the equine and canine athletes that are the center of attention as they speed through the finish line.
