Delaware Racetracks
Horse racing has been taking place in Delaware for centuries and the state is home to a few large tracks that are well supported throughout the racing season. Delaware's horse racing industry is regulated by the Delaware Department of Agriculture Thoroughbred Racing Commission. The commission is responsible for overseeing Thoroughbred and Arabian horse racing in the state, including preventing corrupt practices, monitoring account audits for wagering, providing industry information and so forth.
Delaware Park was inaugurated in 1937 after the Delaware Racing Commission was established in 1933. Over the years, the park has developed into a racing, gaming and entertainment facility, hosting many of Delaware’s major horse racing events. Then there is the fantastic Harrington Raceway, which in 2009 celebrated 63 years of horse racing. Dover Downs combines Thoroughbred horse racing and harness racing with great entertainment, a casino and a hotel. Excitement, history and breathtaking live horse racing action can be enjoyed at all of the tracks located in Delaware.
