A lovely racing track with fantastic facilities, Meadowlands Racetrack should not be missed.

New Jersey’s Meadowlands Racetrack opened with harness racing in 1976 and thoroughbred racing was introduced to the track in 1977. Thoroughbred racing is run in the fall months whilst the remainder of the year is dedicated to standardbred harness racing. The entire establishment including the buildings and barns were designed by Ewing Cole architectural firm who are renowned for creating a number of exquisite racetracks around the world. A lake in the middle of the race track is said to be designed in the shape of New Jersey, but many consider that debatable.

Big M’s main dirt track is 1 mile with an inner turf course of 7 furlongs. The main track measures 90 feet in breadth making it a pretty standard American track. Well-known for its great harness racing times, Meadowlands Racetrack has been built with impressive sweeping curves. Many of the races run at Meadowlands take place at night. The Hambletonian, which forms the first leg of the renowned Trotting Triple Crown, is hosted at Meadowlands Racetrack. Graded thoroughbred races on Meadowlands’ calendar include the Meadowlands Breeders’ Cup Stakes, Cliff Hanger Handicap, Violet Handicap, Boiling Springs Handicap and Pegasus Stakes. Quick Baron won the first pari-mutuel race of BigM.

Meadowlands Racetrack, managed by the New Jersey Sports and Exhibition Authority, boasts lovely facilities for racegoers. Meadowland’s 16 barns provide accommodation for 1,760 horses. The grandstand alone is able to handle some 40,000 eager racing fans and 20,000 parking spots ensures that there is always somewhere to park your vehicle. Paddock Park allows you an up-close view of the action as the thundering hooves of speeding steeds gallop past you.
