Texas Racetracks

The State of Texas, located in the South Central United States, is readily associated with horses, with many a rancher keeping their herds of cattle in check on horseback. Texas is home to a number of fine horse racing facilities which are enthusiastically supported by competitors and spectators alike. Located around 10 miles outside Austin, Manor Downs is the oldest pari-mutuel horse racing track in Texas, combining good old-fashioned hospitality with the excitement of live racing in the spring, and simulcast wagering throughout the year. Lonestar Park in Grand Prairie is a venue where the whole family is catered for, with a 15 acre fun park, complete with a playground and pony rides, ensuring that the kids have a great day too. Other tracks in Texas include Gillespie County Fair, Retama Park and Sam Houston.

The Texas Racing Commission, located in Cross Park Drive, Austin, consists of nine members, with seven of those members being appointed by the Governor. There are certain requirements for membership, with each member fulfilling a specified role, all with the purpose of ensuring the welfare of all participants and spectators, as well as maintaining the integrity of the horse racing industry.
