Glen Boss : Horse Racing Jockey

Glen Boss is a renowned Australian jockey, best known for his grand victories at the Melbourne Cup three times consecutively aboard stunning Makybe Diva. A truly talented jockey, Glen Boss has been noted for his kindness toward the thoroughbreds he rides and his love of the sport of flat racing.

Glen Boss was born in Caboolture on 21 August 1969. Since a young age, Glen has had an affinity for horses. In his youth, Boss won numerous pony club awards and was even involved in the breaking in of horses. He left school at 15 years of age and began riding as an apprentice in Gympie. In just 10 months Glen Boss had ridden 60 winners.

In 1990 Boss debuted as a senior jockey in Queensland, Australia. He later moved to Sydney and quickly began making a name for himself. In 1995 he won the Chipping Norton Stakes on Telesto and the Golden Slipper with Flying Spur. From 1990 until he began his Melbourne Cup victory run, Boss had about 50 Group 1 winners to his name. A potential tragedy struck his career in June 2002. During a terrible downpour of rain at Macau racetrack, Glen Boss slipped off his horse resulting in two painful breaks in his neck. Fortunately the damage wasn't permanent due to fine efforts by an expert medical team as well as a top neurosurgeon. Within just 6 months he was able to mount up again, even competing in the Melbourne Cup with Pentastic.

A remarkably determined jockey, Glen Boss took Makybe Diva to great heights in the Melbourne Cup, winning in 2003, 2004 and 2005. He has therefore, come to be considered one of the greatest and most accomplished Australian jockeys. Boss was the first ever jockey to have gained such successes in the entire history of this great Australian race. Glen Boss has remained humble through all his wins and is quoted as saying: "The association I have had with Makybe Diva has been the most exciting part of my professional career. I owe her everything."

Glen Boss continues to ride Group 1 winners, more so than any other jockey. He can often be seen racing overseas in Hong Kong, Dubai, Japan, Macau and New Zealand. When he is not racing, Boss is involved with Seven Network and News Limited. He is also dedicated to his wife, Sloane, and their two children Carter and Tayte.
