Killarney Race Track in Ireland
Situated in the picturesque countryside of Killarney, the Killarney Racecourse enjoys a reputation as one of the prettiest racecourses in the country. This stunning venue plays host to a number of large races every year and provides ample facilities for jockeys, trainers, owners and the general public. Combined with the natural beauty of the many equine athletes who take to the racetrack, Killarney is a near unbeatable racing venue.
The track at Killarney is a left-handed oval measuring 9 furlongs in length. It has a 3-furlong run, 5 hurdles and 6 fences as well as cambered bends for extra speed and safety. The present racecourse is situated a half a mile from the centre of Killarney though in the past there were two different racecourses in the area. Eventually racing resumed at the current racecourse and Killarney has gone from strength to strength ever since. Numerous renovations have ensured that visitors are able to enjoy hospitality rooms, restaurants, bars and a variety of self-service facilities. There is also a 9-hole golf course within the racecourse which adds to the appeal of the venue. The surrounding countryside provides plenty of entertainment in the form of historical and natural attractions and sporting activities such as pony trekking, swimming, fishing and mountaineering. A variety of B&B’s, hotels and guest houses provide ample accommodation.
The town of Killarney also enjoys an annual four-day Summer Festival celebration. The celebration has been held each year since 1947 and it features numerous horse races which take place along the bank of the River Flesk. If you combine the festivities of this celebration with your trip to the racecourse, you will be able to enjoy what is arguably one of the best horseracing holidays available in the country. Rail transport to the grounds is available and provides cost-effective transport.
