Montana Race Tracks

The mountainous state of Montana in the Western United States is home to two world-class horse racing facilities – MetraPark and Yellowstone Downs. Located in Billings, Montana, MetraPark features a range of arenas and event amenities, one of which is the half-mile track and stabling facilities to host live horse racing. The regular horse racing events attract large numbers of spectators, many of whom are hoping to leave with more in their wallets than when they arrived. Also located in Billings, Yellowstone Downs is primarily a quarterhorse race track which hosts futurity and derby races on a regular basis, attracting competitors with the generous purses and spectators drawn by the sheer exhilaration of seeing the horse they are backing cross the finish line in first place.

The Montana Board of Horse Racing consists of seven board members who are appointed by the Governor of Montana for a three-year term. Their duties include regulating both the live and simulcast horse racing industry; ensuring that the approximately 3,500 licensees comply with state laws and board rules; establishing and monitoring veterinary practices and standards; and auditing, supervising, and when necessary, investigating, matters related to the pari-mutuel racing system of Montana.
