Hennessy Gold Cup Entries

The Hennessy Gold Cup will take place on Saturday, 29 November 2008, at the Newbury Racecourse and is one of the most popular Grade 3 National Hunt horse racing events on the United Kingdom racing calendar. It was inaugurated in 1957 and was run at the Cheltenham Racecourse, but was moved to the Newbury Racecourse in 1960, where it has remained. Run over a distance of 5,331 meters, with twenty one fences, the Hennessy Gold Cup is a national hunt horse racing meeting for five year old horses and over and carries a purse of £150,000.

A magnificent lineup of horses has confirmed their presence at the Hennessy Gold Cup this year and it will be a memorable event. Fifty-four horses have entered and one of them is the Grade 2 phenomenon, Knowhere. Knowhere is trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and saw the spectacular ten year old deliver a commanding victory in the Old Roan Chase on the 26th of October at Aintree. Ollie Magern has also been entered by Twiston-Davies and just as one thought the competition couldn’t get better, the name Comply or Die pops up. Comply or Die has been out of action for almost two years due to injury, but trainer David Pipe feels that his horse will be a formidable competitor. Pipe is also saddling up Madison Du Berlais and Dom d’Orgeval for the event.

Paul Nicholls seems to be leaving nothing to chance, and has entered Ornais, Dear Villez, Star De Mohaison, My Will, Big Buck’s, Turko and Gungadu. The second place finisher in the Old Roan Chase, Exotic Dancer, will also be a contender and trainer Jonjo O’Neill has also confirmed Nor’not’east, Butler’s Cabin, Albertas Run and Don’t Push It as contenders. Other contenders to look out for include Slim Pickings, Afistfullofdollars, Mister Top Notch, Air Force One and Joe Lively.

All the above mentioned contenders are just a few of the names on the star studded list of entries, and each of these horses has made a major impact on the horse racing industry. They bring their own individual qualities to the event and no doubt it will be a breathtaking affair.
