Hoosier Cadillac Wins at Hoosier Park

Hoosier Park came alive with horse racing action on Saturday, 5 July 2008, with thirteen racing events on the race card. Spectators filled the stands to support the various races that ranged from invitational horse racing events to claiming handicaps. The eighth race on the race card was the $23 000 Invitational Trot, which saw a great line-up of contenders filling the field. As Mark O’Mara encouraged Hoosier Cadillac to pull away from the rest of contenders, he knew that the victory was in the bag.

Hoosier Cadillac is trained by Sally Gilbert at the Hawkinsville Training Centre during the winter months and is owned by her husband, Mel Gilbert. During spring, Hoosier Cadillac is brought back to Indiana each year for the racing season. At six years of age Hoosier Cadillac has enjoyed fourteen victories during his racing career, and this year alone he won three of his six race starts. As with many athletes in the world of horse racing, he has also had a few difficulties to overcome, but on Saturday night he was on top form, looking comfortable and confident throughout the race.

As the $23 000 Invitational Trot got underway, with seven horses in the field, Hoosier Cadillac got off to a terrific start, taking the lead immediately. He was challenged at times by the likes of Sandblast, Cellebrity Force and JL Flying Arrows, but maintained his lead by opening the gap between himself and the rest of the contenders right until the end of the race. Hoosier Cadillac won the race in superb fashion and was followed over the finish line by JL Flying Arrows in second, Killer Whale in third, Super Discipline, Sandblast, Cellebrity Force and Laser Larry.

From this wonderful victory, Hoosier Cadillac will be heading towards Hawthorne Race Course where he will be taking part in the $80 000 Erwin F. Dygert Memorial final, which takes place on 12 July 2008. If his performance in the $23 000 Invitational Trot is anything to go by, then he will most definitely be one of the horses to look out for at the Hawthorne Race Course. Hoosier Cadillac has proven his strength and ability as a top harness racing champion, and many believe that there is much more to come from this amazing horse.
