Yavapai Downs Horse Racing Track in Arizona
Yavapai Downs (previously Prescott Downs) is a quarter horse and thoroughbred horse racing track in Arizona's Prescott Valley. With a calendar of exciting races between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Yavapai Downs race track is also well known for the Yavapai County Fair.
Yavapai Downs boasts a 1 mile dirt oval track on a property of 200 acres beautifully situated with the Mingus Mountains as a backdrop. Excellent facilities designed by Froelick, Kow and Gong Architects provide some 5,000 racegoers with a grandstand measuring 85,000 square feet. Two stall areas provide sufficient stabling for 1,500 horses during race season. The permanent outdoor arena is also accompanied by temporary rings. The multi-purpose indoor arena building measures 60,000 square feet and is used for a number of important events. Yavapai Downs race track also offers simulcast racing from some 35 other tracks. Top horses to race at Yavapai Downs include Im Tezzing, Kolinor, Bordeaux Babe, Simply Basic, Bold Bengie, Classy Cade, Beniflower, Nellys Star and Devils Partner, amongst others.
Yavapai Downs hosts a grand selection of quarter horse and thoroughbred racing events. Among these are the United States graded stakes races, the Yavapai Downs Futurity and the Helen Anthony Memorial. Yavapai Downs’ horse racing season runs from May through to September and post times are at 13h00. In addition to the exciting racing events, Yavapai race track hosts various fun-filled shows such as Mexican Rodeo, Jumping Chollas Agility Dog Show, Lippizan shows, Paint Horse Show, Yavapai County Fair and the Gem & Mineral show.
Well-known horseman Roy Snedigar has a garden dedicated to his memory in Yavapai Downs. A proclamation was signed by Governor Janet Napolitano in honor of Roy’s contribution to the local horse fraternity. Through the years of his career, Roy Snedigar played a large role in Arizona’s horse racing community and became a renowned contributor for all his hard work.
