Spectacular Win for Gayego

Gayego has been improving with every racing event he enters. His fighting spirit and willpower have allowed him to stun the crowds with some spectacular finishes. Even though he has not won them all, his increasing power, stamina and experience, led spectators to hold their breath for the magnificent win that they believed would come, and which did, at the Arkansas Derby this weekend. Gayego thrilled spectators with a glorious victory, and will most definitely be looked out for at the Kentucky Derby.

Saturday marked another spectacular day of racing at the Arkansas Derby. The $1 million Grade 2 event drew a staggering crowd of approximately fifty six thousand spectators and many were nervous to see how Gayego would perform on a dirt track, as it was his first race on dirt. Gayego, who is trained by Paulo Lobo and ridden by Mike Smith, was up against formidable competitors such as the Steve Amussen trained Z Fortune, but showed no sign of trouble throughout the race. He is the son of Gilded Time, winner of the 1992 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile, and as his sire did, Gayego showed the horse racing industry that the best is yet to come.

Gayego broke well out of the starting gates and remained in second position behind Tres Borrachos until the final turn. With a tremendous onslaught of power, Gayego started to pass Tres Borrachos and Z Fortune followed suit. But the valiant effort put in by this magnificent colt, kept Z Fortune at bay long enough for him to win $600 000 for the Cubanacan Stables and to push up his career earnings to $723 420.

He is becoming known for his gutsy efforts and his unstoppable determination. Gayego always gives his best at every racing event, throwing his heart and soul into every stride. It will most certainly be exciting to see how he will perform in the Kentucky Derby, where there awaits a tough line-up of contenders. Big names, such as Pyro, Majestic Warrior, War Pass, Big Brown, Colonel John, Cool Coal Man, Tale of Ekati, Bob Black Jack, Z Fortune, Big Truck, Blackberry Road, Giant Moon, Dennis Of Cork, Fierce Wind, Elysium Fields, Anak Nakal, El Gato Malo and Court Vision, will all be in the starting gates on the 3rd of May at Churchill Downs. And if one has to go on this weekend’s performance, Gayego will ensure that it is going to be a very memorable live horse racing event.
