Ferndale Race Track in California

California's Ferndale Race Track offers 10 days of horse racing during August whilst the Humboldt County Fair is in action. Also renowned for the Humboldt County Marathon Handicap, Ferndale Race Track boasts top facilities and exciting entertainment during the season.

The first pari-mutuel meeting was held at Ferndale Race Track in 1896, attracting many eager racegoers to the area. Since that time, Ferndale has flourished during the fun-filled Humboldt County Fair. Ferndale has a single main track measuring half a mile with two chutes, one is 5/8 mile and the other 7/8 mile. The distance between the last turn and finishing line is 530 feet. A variety of thrilling races are held here including thoroughbred, quarter horse, Arabian and mule racing. Thoroughbred racing events held at Ferndale Race Track include the Land of Jazz Starter Stake, C.J. Hindley, Humboldt County Marathon, Charlie Palmer Starter handicap and Les Mademoiselle Stake. Arabian racing fans can watch the Ferndale Arabian Stake, Victorian Village Arabian Juvenile and Paul Cacci Eel River Sprint. The Cream City Mule Handicap and Ferndale Dash are top mule racing events. Races are run in August from Tuesday through to Sunday. The post times during Humboldt County Fair are as follows: Monday to Thursday – 2:25 pm; Friday – 3:25 pm and Saturday to Sunday – 1:55 pm.

Ferndale Race Track has excellent facilities including sufficient stabling for 458 horses (258 permanent and 200 portable). The grandstand has the capacity to seat 1,800 eager race goers. Other amenities at the track, which can be hired for special events, include the Turf Room Banquet Hall, Belotti Hall, storage facilities and overnight RV parking. The covered arena is used for several horse and rodeo events. The Humboldt County Fair at Ferndale offers an abundance of entertainment over and above the fast-paced horse races. Entertainment for the entire family includes carnival rides, fairground games, dog shows, livestock events, exhibits, delicious foods and satellite horse racing.
