Los Alamitos Race Course in California

Los Alamitos Race Course is located on Katella Avenue of the small town of Los Alamitos in Orange County, California. Open year round, Los Alamitos is a major quarter horse racing venue which also features Arabian, thoroughbred, appaloosa and paint racing. Owned by Ed Allred, Los Alamitos Race Course was originally established in 1951. Since its beginnings, Los Alamitos continues to attract many eager racegoers with its year-round calendar of events.

Horse racing first started at Los Alamitos in the year 1947 when it was still incorporated into Frank Vessels’ ranch, but thoroughbred racing only began at Los Alamitos in 1994. Los Alamitos Race Course has a 5/8 mile oval track. The grandstand has seating for 6,500 spectators and there is much more standing room. Racegoers are well catered for with extensive parking, 5 ticket booths, food outlets and over 1,300 television monitors. The Vessels Club is a classy restaurant that looks out on the Los Alamitos’ race track. All the tables have a television with satellite races. The Los Alamitos Race Courses club house has a lounge and private bar along with a television and betting machines. Many visitors cannot resist the renowned Bland Burger sold at Schwanie’s Grill At The Gap whilst watching the fast-paced horse races. Stabling is available for 1,400 horses.

Los Alamitos Race Course holds live racing from Thursdays through to Sundays. This impressive race track is chiefly centered around quarter horse racing with the majority of races being 300- and 350- yard sprints. A great attraction at Los Alamitos is the California Breeders’ cup. Another popular event is the Los Alamitos Equine Sale where well-bred quarter horse yearlings are auctioned. Quarter Horses who have left their mark on Los Alamitos by setting records include No Time To Fish for the 300 yards in 2005; Corona Chick for the 350 yards in 1991 and Full Gage in the 990 yards in 1991.
