Mohawk Raceway began its path to success back in April 1963. It opened with a dramatic race between then renowned steeds like Cam Fella, Artsplace, Odies Fame and Moni Maker as well as brilliant drivers such as Steve Condren, John Campbell, Doug Brown and Ron Waples. Originally owned by the Ontario Jockey Club, Mohawk had Canada’s top 5/8 mile oval raceway. In 1998 it underwent extensive improvements, resulting in a stunning 7/8 mile track, much to the delight of the racing community. Today, Mohawk is owned by Woodbine Entertainment Group.
Mohawk Raceway’s 7/8 mile oval features a homestretch of 1,095 feet with a breadth of 85 feet. The racetrack base is crushed limestone with a cushion of traprock. Ten starters can be accommodated behind the gate. Mohawk’s harness racing calendar runs from June through to October with a number of thrilling racing events scheduled. Amongst the most popular races are the Canadian Pacing Derby, Campbellville Trot, Milton Stakes, Harvest Stakes, Metro Pace, Canadian Trotting Classic and Maple Leaf Trot. Races are held 5 nights of the week with dark Wednesdays and Sundays. Post time is typically 7:40 pm. The record for the fastest mile of 1:48.1 at Mohawk Raceway was set by BuckeyeOne.

For the convenience of patrons wagering windows are scattered throughout the establishment and there are also self-service terminals. More than enough seating ensures everyone gets plenty of elbow-room. In fact, there is sufficient seating for 5,000 spectators. Mohawk Raceway is open all through the year. With 730 stables and a training center, the area is always abuzz with horses and riders. Then of course there is the relatively new slot machine zone with about 750 slots.
